Buckhannon, WV --Â For the second game in a row, an opponent has come into the Rockefeller Center and shot over 50% on three-pointers. On Wednesday night, PSAC foe Shepherd stormed into Buckhannon, and shot 56.3% from deep on their way to an 85-65 victory. Everything that Shepherd was able to do on Wednesday was based upon their shooting, as it allowed them to get ahead early, and hold off Wesleyan runs later in the game.
It seemed as if every time Wesleyan would grab momentum in the game, Shepherd would steal it right back by making three-pointers. In the middle of the second-half, the Bobcats went on a run that saw them pressure the Rams into turnovers, and ignite the crowd on the other end with dunks by
Ross Young. The Junior has some serious bounce, and his fast break dunks were the highlight of the game for Wesleyan. Other than that mini run, the Bobcats did not have much go their way on Wednesday. Senior
Dusan Vicentic did however keep his strong start to the season going, collecting sixteen points on seven of twelve shooting.
Ross Young had ten points, and
Clay Todd made his return to the lineup with nine points, and he worked hard on the glass to grab eight rebounds.Â
Senior Guard Thomas Lang is the star for Shepherd. He was garned with Second Team All-MEC honors a season ago, and it appears that he is shooting for even higher recognition in the PSAC this season. Lang scored 31 points for the Rams on Wednesday, making eight of his eleven three-point shots. He also grabbed six rebounds, and passed out four assists. This also was not even his best game of the young season, against Bowie State last Saturday he scored 42 points, making seven threes and fifteen free-throws. Lang will undoubtedly be one of the top players in the Atlantic Region this season. Kyle Daggett also had a strong game for the Rams, scoring seventeen points on three-of-four shooting from deep.
This was the second game in a row for the Bobcats in which an opponent shot over 50% on three-pointers against them. Coach Patella does implement a two-three zone on defense, which encourages teams to shoot over top of the defense, but those type of shooting numbers could never be expected. The Bobcats will have a full week to put away these performances, and prepare for a trip to Alderson Broaddus next Wednesday.
