Matchups
West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Basketball travels to South Euclid, OH to play Notre Dame College on Saturday at 2 PM. The Lady Bobcats have struggled the past few weeks, losing their last four games, and have an overall record of 3-6, 1-4 in the Mountain East Conference. Notre Dame is atop the league standings at the moment, holding an impressive 8-1 overall record, and a 4-1 mark in conference.
West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball will follow the Women against Notre Dame on Saturday at approximately 4 PM. The Bobcats are right in the mix at 3-2 so far this year in the MEC, and Notre Dame picked up their first MEC win on Thursday. They are now 1-4 in conference, and 2-7 overall.
Storylines
Despite the losing streak, a trio of Lady Bobcats have put up very impressive performances in this recent stretch. Senior
Nicole Gilyard has scored twenty points two out of the last four games, against Fairmont State and Wheeling. Junior Guard
Brittany Stawovy put up a career high on Wednesday in the last-second loss to Urbana, scoring 31 points and shooting 6-8 from three-point. A very intriguing freshman season is beginning to form out of
Cierra Tolbert, as she has grabbed double-digit rebounds in two of the last three games, and had a 13 point - 8 rebound game on Wednesday. The Lady Bobcats have the frontline talent to compete in the MEC, they need help from the bench on both ends of the floor to account for when Gilyard, Stawovy, and Tolbert are not all in the game together.Â
The Men played a solid all-around game on Wednesday in the win over Urbana. They came out playing fast and making shots, and eventually settled back into a slower pace with the lead. The defense was good in the two-three zone, and they got effective shooting out ofÂ
Dusan Vicentic,
Clay Todd, and
Daylin Lee.
Luka Petrovic also added nine assists. When Petrovic is distributing well, and playing pestering defense at the top of the zone, he is a handful for opposing teams. The difficult thing for the Bobcats this season has been consistency, yet to win back-to-back games this season, Saturday is a big test. It is the last game before the holiday break, and they are facing a Notre Dame team that is off to a rough start with a new coach. These are the games that good teams capitalize on, the energized and focused Bobcats team that we have seen a handful of times this season needs to show up.
