Todd's 29 Propel Bobcats to 76-70 Win Over Urbana

Box Score Buckhannon, WV-- The West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball team hit the hardwood on Thursday night against the Urbana University Blue Knights. The Bobcats were able to snap a two game losing streak picking up a 76-70 conference win. 

Tonight's game started off by the Men's Basketball team recognizing Fred Brondsted's 1,000 point from last Saturday's loss against West Virginia State University.

With minutes into the game the Bobcats would take the lead as the Bobcat defense would cause chaos for the Urbana offense causing 6 turnovers in less than 10 minutes. Clay Todd would lead the charge with 12 points shooting 3-4 from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the line. With 10 minutes into the game the Bobcats would take a demanding lead as they would be up by 12 points (22-10). The Blue Knights would not go away as they would put up 5 straight points to keep the momentum from getting out of hand.

Both teams would be looking to utilize their bench in this high paced game as they continued to spread the ball out thoroughly in transition play. With 4 minutes left in the first half the Blue Knights would cut the lead to 6 points as both teams were starting to get into foul trouble with 8 fouls a piece. 

As the clock ticks down in the first half, the Bobcats would be ahead of the Blue Knight's with a score of 39-29. Clay Todd would have 19 points at the half with 2 rebounds and 2 assists, as he is (5-7)  from the field and a perfect (7-7) from the free throw line. The Blue Knights would hit a last second three to silence the crowd going into the second half. The Bobcats are shooting 50% from the field (14-28) opposed to Urbana shooting 40.7% (11-27). Both teams continue to struggle from behind the arc, as the Bobcats are shooting 22.2% (2-9) and the Blue Knights are 30% (3-10). The Bobcats are also out rebounding the Blue Knights (21-14) as they look to corral the majority of boards this next half of play. The Bobcats look to lean on Senior Clay Todd as the second half is seconds away. 

The Bobcats came out of the gate strong the second half as Fred Brondsted knocks down a deep three, while the next possession Daylin Lee drives to the basket for two more as the Blue Knights haven't knocked anything down with just minutes into the second half.

The Blue Knights would not go away as they would force a couple turnover with 14 minutes left in the second half. Ethan Snapp would knock down three big triples for Urbana and they would be right back within 5 points of the Bobcats. It would appear the momentum would shift as the Blue Knights getting many opportunities and taking advantage of them. 

With just around 10 minutes left in the second half the Blue Knights would take the lead (53-52) from the Bobcats as Ethan Snapp would knock down another deep three. The next two possessions Fred Brondsted would find a way to knock down two big three's for this Bobcat offense who needed a spark. The very next possession Dusan Vicentic would slam one home as the Bobcats would take a 60-57 lead with 9 minutes to go in this half. Both teams would be shooting well as the Bobcats this half are shooting 81.8% (9-11) and Urbana shooting 66.7% (10-15) from the field. The Bobcats and Urbana would be hot from three point range, as Urbana this half shooting 71.4% (5-7) and the Bobcats shooting 75% (3-4).  

With 5 minutes left in the contest, the game would continue to go back and forth as both teams would be applying the pressure on each other.  

Urbana would call a timeout with 3:46 left in the game, the score would be tied 66-66, as both team are getting into foul trouble.

Clay Todd would break it open for the Bobcats as he makes a great drive to the basket and makes the lay-up. The very next possession Luka Petrovic would pick an Urbana player's pocket and make a cross court pass to Clay Todd as he would get fouled and sink both free throws extending the Bobcat lead to 70-66 with just over a minute to go in the game. 

Seconds later in the game, Dusan Vicentic would come down with a clutch defensive rebound as he would get fouled and he would knock down both free throws at the other end. 

With the game coming to an end, the Bobcats would go on to beat Urbana University with a final score of 76-70. 

Tonight's Bobcat highlight players of the game would be Clay Todd with 29 points, 2 assists & 2 rebounds, Fred Brondsted with 13 points, 2 assists & 1 rebound, and Dusan Vicentic with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 1 assist. 

The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats will be in action this Saturday at home, as they take on Notre Dame College, 4:00 PM tip-off.
