Baseball Walks Off Game 1 Against Wheeling Jesuit

BUCKHANNON, WV--

Game 1:


The West Virginia Wesleyan College Baseball team would take on Wheeling Jesuit University in a doubleheader for their home opener. Both teams come in looking to get their first conference win this Saturday afternoon. 

On the mound in game 1 for the Bobcats would be Senior pitcher Jake Bishop out of Beckley, West Virginia. 

The Cardinals would be the first team to score as they would pick up 2 runs on 1 hit and 3 walks. The Bobcats would struggle early to command the zone as the offense would have to help out moving into the bottom half of the inning. 

In the Bottom of the 2nd inning Ryan Kiser would start out with a 1 out rally and Ben Fulks would then Single with 2 outs. Travis Renner would then single between shortstop and third base loading the bases for Nick Grotti as he would single into right field. Kiser would come into score but Fulks would get thrown out at the plate to end the inning as the Bobcats trail 2-1. 

The Cardinals would put up 1 run in the 3rd and another in the 4th inning as they start to seperate from the Bobcats 4-1. The Bobcats would answer in the Bottom of the 4th inning as Jonathan Cintron would reach 2nd base on a dropped fly ball, Ryan Kiser would then fly out moving Cintron over to third base. Dominic Castello, Ben Fulks and Travis Renner would all single loading the bases for Nick Grotti once again. Grotti would reach on an error as the Bobcats would bring in two runs to score tying the ball game up 4-4. 

Wheeling would be prepared to tack on more runs as they picked up 2 runs on 2 hits in the top of the 5th.

The Bobcats wouldn't answer until the bottom of the 7th inning as the top of the order would be due up. Greg Smith would lead off the inning with a single. The Cardinals would then take their starting pitcher Luciano out which was a sign of life for the home team. Eric Forbrick would have a disciplined at bat as he would walk bringing Antonio Vega to the plate. Vega would put down a great bunt that would sneak past the pitcher for a single loading up the bases for Jonathan Cintron. Cintron and Kiser would both walk tying the game up at 6 a piece. With 0 outs Senior Dominic Castello would be due up as he would hit one into right field. Vega would tag up and would score as the Bobcats would walk it off their first home game of the year. 

The Bobcats would be back in action as the next game would begin at 4:00 PM. 

Game 2: 

The Bobcats would look to keep the momentum rolling as they try to pick up their first sweep of the year but the Cardinals would not go down without a fight.

On the mound for the Bobcats would be Junior pitcher Griffin Roe out of Stewart, Florida. 

In the 2nd inning Wheeling would pick up 2 runs on just one hit as the Bobcats would struggle to find the zone again. The Bobcats would not answer in the bottom half of the inning. Wheeling would be back at it again in the third as the get one more run making the game 3-0 as the Bobcats offense looks to get something going. 

In the Bottom of the third the Bobcats would show a sign of life as they would pick up 2 runs on 2 hits. Greg Smith would start the two out rally by reach second base on a dropped fly ball. Eric Forbrick would then also reach on an error from the shortstop as Greg Smith would go into score. The Bobacts would not be done as Antonio Vega would single moving Forbrick up to third base. Jonathan Cintron would then double scoring Forbrick and moving Vega over to third base as the Bobcats would be within 1 run. 

Hunter Rotarius would come in relief for the Bobcats as he would throw 5 shut out innings. The Bobcats would just continue to struggle offensively as they only would put up 2 more hits in the ball game as they would go onto lose game 2 with a score 3-2. 

The Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow at home against West Liberty University, first pitch at 1:00 PM. Come out and support your Bobcats!
