Buckhannon, WV--
The West Virginia Wesleyan College Baseball team would take on West Liberty University in a doubleheader this Sunday as the would split with Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday. The Bobcats come into today's matchup with an 8-14 overall record while the Hilltoppers come in with a 3-15 overall record.Â
Game 1:
On the mound for the Bobcats would be Freshman pitcher
Michael Maiolo as they look to scratch another tally in the win column.Â
In the beginning of the game the Hilltoppers would be first to score as they would reach base by a walk and then later score due to a triple making it a 1-0 game.Â
The Bobcats would not roll over as they would put up 4 runs in the bottom half of the 2nd inning.
Antonio Vega would single,
Dominic Castello would reach on an error by the second baseman and the
Travis Renner would single loading the bases for
Ben Fulks as he would ground out to short advancing every runner.
Ryan Kiser would then come up with runners in scoring position as he would single into right field scoring two runs making it 3-1 ball game. The Bobcats would not be done yet as
Ryan Kiser would advance on a past ball and
Tanner McCallister would single scoring Kiser as the Bobcats take a 4-1 lead and the momentum.Â
In the bottom of the 3rd, the Bobcats would be right back at it as
Eric Forbrick would start off the inning with a single to left field.
Antonio Vega would then double in the gap as Forbrick would then move to 3rd base.
Dominic Castello the walkoff hero from yesterday's matchup would come up as he would hit a SAC fly to score Vega from 3rd base.
Ben Fulks would then single to center field as
Eric Forbrick would score from 2nd base making it a 6-1 game as it seemed the Bobcats were starting to pull away.Â
The Hilltoppers would put up 1 run in the top of the 4th inning on 3 singles as they narrow in on the gap (6-2).Â
In the bottom half of the 5th inning, the Bobcats would pick up 1 more run as the inning would start off with
Eric Forbrick mashing a triple to deep center field. He would later score by
Dominic Castello hitting another SAC fly to put the lead back to a 5 run deficit.Â
Dominic Castello would come into close the game for the Bobcats, he would give up just 1 run as the Bobcats would go onto win 7-3.
Michael Maiolo would pick up his 3rd win of the year and his first conference win.Â
Game 2 will be played in roughly 30 minutes after the end of game 1.Â
Game 2:Â
The Bobcats look to control game 2 early just as they did in game 1 and that is exactly what they did early in the game. In the bottom of the first inning the Bobcats would put up 6 runs in a long inning.
Greg Smith would start off the inning with a walk, he would steal 2nd base and then advance to 3rd on a wild pitch.
Jonathan Cintron would walk bringing
Eric Forbrick to the plate. Forbrick would crush a double in the left center gap as Smith would score and Cintron would move up to 3rd base.
Antonio Vega would come to the plate as he would continue to stay hot as he would sin gle bringing in 2 runs. The Bobcats would not be done as
Nick Grotti would get on from a HBP.
Travis Renner would move them over by putting a SAC bunt down bringing
Ben Fulks to the plate. Fulks would reach on an error by the 2nd baseman scoring two runs making it 5-0.
Ryan Kiser would then single as the Bobcats would have runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out.
Tanner McCallister would walk loading the bases for
Greg Smith as the Bobcats would bat around the lineup. Smith ground out to score scoring Grotti from 3rd base.Â
In the top of the 2nd inning the Hilltoppers would not roll over as they would put 2 runs as they try to claw at the lead.Â
In the top of the 3rd inning the Hilltoppers would put up 2 more runs making it a 2 run ball game as the Hilltoppers would start to see some life here in the middle of the game.Â
In the bottom of the 3rd inning,
Travis Renner would double over the center fielder's head. The Bobcats would play fundamental small ball in the later inning's as they produce a run by
Ben Fulks SAC bunting Renner to 3rd base and
Ryan Kiser hitting him in on a SAC Fly to left field as the Bobcats would be up 7-4.Â
In the bottom of the 5th the Bobcats would lead off with another double as
Antonio Vega would double in the left center gap. The Bobcats would play small ball again as
Nick Grotti would SAC bunt Vega to third base and
Ben Fulks would single into center field as the Bobcats make it a 4 run deficit.Â
In the bottom of the 6th inning,
Greg Smith would start off the inning with a single, later in the inning
Eric Forbrick would single bringing in
Jonathan Cintron. The Bobcats would pull away making it 9-4 going into the 7th inning.Â
Dominic Castello would stay on the mound as he would let up 1 run in the last inning but the Hilltoppers could not catch up making it a 9-5 game. Castello would pick up his 3rd win of the year as the Bobcats would sweep the Hilltoppers.Â
The Bobcats will be back in action this Tuesday against Salem University for a single 9 inning game at 6:00PM, come out and support your Bobcats for another home game!
