Game 1:
The West Virginia Wesleyan College Baseball took on Wheeling Jesuit University on March 6, 2019 for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 PM. The Bobcats would come into the game with a 3-7 overall record opposed to WJU coming in with a 1-6 overall record.Â
On the mound for the Bobcats would be Sophomore pitcher
Jake Hakey with his first start, looking to pick up his first win of the season to get the Bobcats back on track.Â
Throughout the first 3 innings it would be a scoreless battle as pitchers from both team would be racking up strikeouts. However, the Bobcats would be the first to strike as
Jonathan Cintron would single and work around the bases to cross the plate as well as
Eric Forbrick scoring on
Dominic Castello's two out base hit to bring the score to 2-0.Â
The Cardinals wouldn't take long to respond as they pick up one run in the bottom of the 4th inning due to an error from the Bobcats (2-1).
In the bottom of the 6th inning the Cardinals would come alive as they would pick up 2 runs taking the lead, defensive mistakes and a couple hits for the Cardinals would give them the momentum as they would need to hold the Bobcats off in the top of the 7th.Â
The Bobcats had other plans as they would pick up 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning as Domoinic Castello would reach on an error and Bryson fluke would drop a single into left field as
Alex Skinner would come to the plate. Skinner would crush a double into left center and both runs would come into score as the Bobcats take the lead 4-3.
Tanner McCallister would single and then steal second as
Greg Smith would hit a single as McCallister would come around to score, Bobcats lead 5-3.
The Bobcats would go on to win 5-3 as they rally together to come back and beat Wheeling Jesuit as the Bobcats pick up their 4th win of the year.Â
Jake Hackey would pitch 6.1 innings with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk and Griffen Roe would pick up the win as pitched 0.2 innings with 2 strikeouts as he moves to (1-2) on the year.
Alex Skinner would be 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and a double and
Dominic Castello was 1 for 2 with an RBI and
Bryson Fluke would be 1 for 1 with a run.Â
The Bobcats would play the second game of the double header at 6:30 PM.Â
Game 2:
The Bobcats would take on Wheeling Jesuit for the second game in the double header starting at 6:30 PM.
On the mound for the Bobcats in game 2 would be Junior pitcher
Kyle Kania as he gets his first start of the year looking to sweep the Cardinals on the day.Â
The Bobcats would be the home team for game 2 as they are also the first to strike in the bottom of the second inning.
Josh Petit would work a walk and
Alex Skinner would stay hot in the doubleheader as he would double again in the left center gap as
Josh Petit would come around to score.Â
The top of the order in the bottom of the 3rd would produce more runs for the Bobcats as both
Greg Smith and
Jonathan Cintron would reach on errors from the Cardinals defense.
Eric Forbrick would come to the plate and would single up the middle and score both runners as the Bobcats take the lead 3-0. Forbrick would then reach 3rd on a wild pitch and
Josh Petit would hit a fly ball to right field as he would earn the sacrafice fly as
Eric Forbrick would come in to score making it a 4-0 ball game.Â
The Cardinals would answer in the top of the 5th inning as they pick up just one run on two hits as they start to close in on the Bobcats 4-1.Â
In the bottom of the 5th inning,
Greg Smith would start off the inning with a triple to right as it lands right on the line.
Eric Forbrick would bloop one into right field scoring
Greg Smith.
Sam Ross would also would crush a RBI single up the middle as the Bobcats put up two runs this inning as they start to pull away from the Cardinals.Â
The Bobcats would go onto win 6-1 as
Kyle Kania throws 6 innings on 5 strikeouts as
Julio Medina came in the last inning to close it with 2 strikeouts.
Alex Skinner and
Eric Forbrick would both go 2 for 3 in this game.Â
The Bobcats will take on Minnesota State Manketo at 10:30 tomorrow morning for a single 9 inning game.
