Box Score 4 Buckhannon, WV-- The West Virginia Wesleyan College Baseball team will face off against Urbana University this Sunday for two games and Notre Dame College this Tuesday at home due to weather. The Bobcats look to increase their conference record as they go into the weekend with a 3-5 record.
Game 1: Urbana
On the mound for game 1 against Urbana University would be Freshman pitcher
Michael Maiolo who has been dominant for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats would be the first to score as
Travis Renner would start the top of the 3rd inning off with a walk.
Ryan Kiser would move him over with a sacrifice bunt bringing
Travis Renner in to score. The Bobcats would fail to score anymore leaving two runs on as the Bobcats would take the 1-0 lead going into the bottom half.
In the top of the 4th inning,
Eric Forbrick would start it off with a walk.
Antonio Vega would then come up to the dish as he singles to left field.
Dominic Castello would lay a sac bunt down and would reach first base due to an error from the third baseman as Forbrick would come into score. With runners on 2nd and 3rd base
Ben Fulks would come up as he would deliver laying down a squeeze bunt making the game 3-0.
Travis Renner in the same inning would also lay a squeeze bunt down as the Bobcats would lead 4-0.
Urbana would start a rally as they would pick up 4 hits in the inning as they put up 2 runs. In the bottom of the 5th inning the Blue Knights would tie it up as they would pick up 2 hits and score 2 runs.
The Bobcats wouldn't fold as
Antonio Vega would start of the top of the 6th inning with a double in the left center gap. Domonic Castello would come up moving Vega to third base on another sacrifice bunt.
Travis Renner would come up with 2 outs as he would deliver smoking one down the left field line making it a 5-4 ball game as the momentum would stay with the Bobcats.
In the top of the 7th inning, the Bobcats were not finished as
Greg Smith would walk,
Jonathan Cintron would double,
Eric Forbrick &
Dominic Castello would both single and
Antonio Vega would triple as they Bobcats pick up 4 runs as they would take the lead 9-4.
The Blue Knights would fight to scratch three more across the board but would not be enough as the Bobcats win game 1 with a final score of 9-7. Game 2 will begin at 3:30 PM.
Game 2: Urbana
On the mound for game 2 of the double header would be Junior pitcher
Griffin Roe as he looks to pick up a conference win and sweep the Blue Knights.
In the top of the 2nd inning the Bobcats would take the lead as
Josh Petit would double down the right field line.
Dominic Castello would move Petit to third base on a sacrifice bunt and then
Travis Renner would double down the left field line as Petit would come into score making it 1-0.
In the top of the 3rd inning
Tanner McCallister would lead things off with a single up the middle and would then steal second base on the first pitch.
Greg Smith would then double down the left field line scoring McCallister as they take the lead 2-0.
Urbana would pick up 2 hits and 2 runs in the bottom half of the inning as the Blue Knights were looking to take the lead.
In the top of the 5th inning the Bobcats would pick up 1 more run as
Greg Smith started it off with a single.
Jonathan Cintron would move him over and
Josh Petit would score him with a single to the right side as the Bobcats would be up 3-2.
In the top of the 6th inning the Bobcats would tack on another run as
Ryan Kiser would single to the right side,
Travis Renner would move him over to second base bringing
Bryson Fluke to the plate. Fluke would single into left center field bringing in Kiser to score as the Bobcats would be up 4-2.
In the top of the 7th inning, the Bobcats would pick up one last run as
Greg Smith would single down the left field line.
Jonathan Cintron would lay a sacrifice bunt down bringing
Eric Forbrick to the dish with 1 out as he would deliver a double to the left center gap bringing in Smith to score.
The Bobcats would take the series from Urbana as they go on to win the 2nd game 5-2.
Griffin Roe would throw a complete game, 6 hits and 10 strikeouts.
The Bobcats would play Notre Dame College on Tuesday at home for a double header due to inclement weather days before, game 1 starting at 1:00 PM.
Game 3: NDC
The Bobcats would look two keep the momentum rolling as they took two from Urbana on Sunday and looking to take two more this Tuesday afternoon. On the mound for the Bobcats would be Senior pitcher
Hunter Rotarius as he looks to pick up his first win of the 2019 season.
The Bobcats would start it off as
Eric Forbrick would be on first base with 1 out as
Antonio Vega would push bunt one to the second baseman as he beats it out.
Dominic Castello would then double down the left field line bringing in Forbrick to score and Vega would get thrown out at the plate as the game would be 1-0 heading into the bottom half of the inning.
In the top of the 4th inning
Antonio Vega would lead off the inning with a double off the left center wall,
Dominic Castello would lay a sacrifice bunt down to move him over bringing
Travis Renner to the plate. Renner would line one into left field where it would be deep enough for Vega to tag up and score making it 2-0 Bobcats.
In the bottom of the 4th inning NDC would pick up 1 run on 1 hit and 1 walk as the game would remain close.
Travis Renner would continue to stay hot as he doubled down the left field line to lead off the top of the 6th inning for the Bobcats.
Nick Grotti would move him over as Renner would eventually come into score on a past ball making it 3-1.
The Falcons would answer in the bottom half as they put up 1 run on 2 hits as they bring the game back to a 1 run deficit.
The Bobcats would play small ball in the top of the 7th inning to produce one more run as Erick Forbrick would start it off as he got hit by a pitch and then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt.
Travis Renner would then lay a squeeze down to make it 4-2 which would end up being the final score as the Falcons could not come back.
Hunter Rotarius would pick up the win with 1 strikeout and 2 earned runs while
Dominic Castello would get the save (his 3rd of the season). Game 2 will begin at 3:30 PM
Game 4: NDC
On the mound for the Bobcats would be Senior pitcher
Dominic Castello from Pittsburgh, PA.
Greg Smith would start the game off with a double down the left field line as the Bobcats would carry the momentum over to this last game.
Jonathan Cintron would single bringing
Eric Forbrick to the plate. Forbrick would hit a sacrifice fly to right field as the Bobcats take the 1-0 lead.
In the top of the 3rd inning
Jonathan Cintron would start it off with a triple to right field.
Travis Renner would come up to bat with two outs and deliver a single to left field as the Bobcats would be up 2-0.
Notre Dame would not quit as they pick up 4 runs on 4 hits in the bottom half of the 3rd.
Kyle Kania would come in relief as he looks to shut the game down from here.
In the top of the 4th inning the Bobcats would produce 1 run off of 0 hits as they make it a 4-3 game.
In the top of the 5th inning
Antonio Vega would reach first base on an error.
Ryan Kiser would then single, bringing
Travis Renner to the dish. Renner would move them both over as he delivers a sacrifice bunt.
Josh Petit would hit a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the ball game up 4 a piece.
Ryan Kiser would eventually score on a wild pitch as the Bobcats would take the lead 5-4. In the top of the 6th inning, the Bobcats would pick up one more run making it 6-4 and the Falcons could not come back after that.
The Bobcats would go on to sweep both teams in the series, the Bobcats will be back in action this Saturday at home against the University of Charleston for a 4 game series, first pitch is at 1:00 PM. Come out and support the Bobcats as they start divisional play within the conference.
