Softball Sweeps Glenville

Buckhannon, WV – Wesleyan welcomed Glenville State Pioneers to Culpepper Field Wednesday evening for a double header matchup.

Game 1
Glenville looked to strike first when they loaded the bases in the first inning, but the Lady Bobcats were able to prevent them from scoring. Glenville loaded the bases again in the second inning with two outs. Celia Valencia made a diving catch to end the second inning, and again hold off Glenville. The Lady Bobcats looked to generate some offense of their own in the bottom of the second inning when Lauren Niglio and Megan Magsamen strung together back to back singles. With the help of a passed ball, Niglio advanced to third and Magsamen to second. Miranda Frye was walked, making the bases loaded with one out. Valencia was able to score Niglio on a fielder's choice to take the lead 1-0. Glenville ended Wesleyan's chances to score anymore when they converted a double play.
The bottom of the third was a big inning for the Lady Bobcats. They were able to score five runs. Kennedy Cowart started things off for Wesleyan that inning when she hit a two-run homer followed by a solo homer from Lauryn King. With these three runs, the score was now 4-0. Valencia and Clark would both hit singles and each pick up an RBI to make it 6-0.
The Lady Bobcat's added on another run when Magsamen notched an RBI off of her triple in the bottom of the fifth. Frye hit a single to score Magsamen and ended the game 8-0. Hannah Hudson picked up her sixth win of the season.

Game 2
The Lady Bobcat's took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Brooke Clark hit a single to get on base and Destiny Alvarado then laid down a SAC bunt to advance Clark to second. Clark was able to advance to third on a wild pitch and then finally scored from a muffed throw by the catcher to third base.
Wesleyan put up another run in the bottom of the third. Clark started the inning off with a double to left field and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Destiny Alvarado then hit a sac fly to score Clark. This run increased the Lady Bobcat's lead to 2-0.
The next few innings would be quiet for both teams, until the bottom of the sixth when Kiley Turner hit a homerun to make it 3-0.  Wesleyan would hold off Glenville and win the game 3-0. Haylee Shires picked up her fourth win of the season.
