Track & Field Impresses at MEC Championships, Pineault Tabbed AOY & League MVP

Glenville, WV- West Virginia Wesleyan Track & Field teams wrapped up their season on Tuesday at the Mountain East Conference Championships hosted by Glenville State College. The women's team performed well over three days and finished as conference runner-up. The men's team finished sixth but managed to exceed point predictions and doubled the amount of all-conference performances from 2018.

The women's team was led by distance standout Sydney Pineault. She was the Mountain East Conference Female Athlete of the Year as voted on by the coaches, and was also named league MVP with scoring 38 points for the Bobcats. Sydney won the 800, 1500, 3000 steeplechase, and finished 2nd in the 5000.

Lauren Leaman also put on a show for the Mountain East. The sophomore finished third to claim all-conference honors in the heptathlon. Leaman was able to finish 2nd in the high jump, and after completing 12 events she was able to finish 2nd in the 400 hurdles after a gutsy performance in a personal best time.

Senior Jordan Lynn ended her track career with a personal best score in the heptathlon. Lynn scored 4,063 points to claim runner-up honors.

Freshman Tori Carr led the youth of the Lady Bobcats with scoring in two events. Her highlight event was on Monday night when she picked up third team all-conference honors in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

The Wesleyan women showcased their depth in the Javelin on Sunday night when they placed 1st through 5th in the event. Katie Demi, Rachel Czulewicz, Abby Buchan, Audrey Barber, and Kennedy Kuhns finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th respectively.

Aiyanna Kachmarek (discus) Caylee Painter (200 & 400), and Emilee Spangler (800) picked up key 4th place finishes in route to the runner-up team finish. School record holder in the hammer Lauren Crimm was able to pick up a fifth place finish in the hammer to round out her impressive career. Overall, the women's side had nine personal bests on the weekend with twelve all-conference honors.

On the men's side, Daryl Grays and Chris Wilburn were the first Bobcats to get points on the board finishing 4th and 6th in the decathlon. Frankie Thomas & Tim Friend struck first when it came to earning all-conference honors in the field events. Thomas would get 3rd in the high jump, while Friend would get 3rd in the shot put.

Devin Taylor, Ryan Hebb, and Daylin Lee led the youth on the men's side. Taylor would come into the meet ranked 7th in the 100 and 200, and came out finishing 3rd in the 100 (10.85) and 4th in the 200 (21.97).  Hebb would come in ranked 9th in the steeplechase and picked up a 6th place finish in the event while earning a personal best of 9:58. Lee, a newcomer to the men's squad was able to make it to the finals of the triple jump and come out with a 5th place finish.

Ridge Dalrymple would have a big day three for Wesleyan. The sophomore would score in the 110 Hurdles, get third-team all-conference honors in the 400H in a personal best time of 54.53, and also play a big part on two relay teams.

The 4x400 team on the men's side would cap off the meet in a big way. The team of Austin Gresser, Dalrymple, Taylor, and Scott Soucier would run the fastest time for the Bobcats since 2010 (3:23.63) and finish 3rd.
