Next Up Preview: Davis & Elkins

Coach Patella Returns to D&E With Motivated Bobcats

Matchup

Wesleyan travels to Davis & Elkins on Saturday afternoon, a place that Head Coach Nick Patella knows well. As the leader of the Senators program for the previous four seasons, his former team has had this game circled on the schedule. Regardless of that storyline, the Bobcats just badly need a win. After dropping four of the last five games after the holiday break, the team finds themselves below .500 in the Mountain East Conference for the first time this season. Davis & Elkins is 3-8 in the MEC, which includes losses in eight of their last nine overall. However, the Senators defeated Glenville State in Elkins last week, and took Fairmont State to the wire on Wednesday.

Key Statistics

D&E is second to last in scoring in the MEC (72.5 ppg).
D&E has the worst scoring margin in the MEC (-9.6 pts).
D&E's Donte Doleman is currently fifth in the MEC in scoring (18.2 ppg).
Dusan Vicentic is ninth in field goal percentage in the MEC (52.0%) and third in rebounding (8.4 rpg).
Luka Petrovic is challenging to become the MEC leader in assists per game (5.3 apg), he is currently second behind Fairmont's Dale Bonner (5.7 apg).

Storylines

Even in a next up preview, it is hard not to rehash on what happened Wednesday night for Wesleyan against Frostburg State. The home 'Cats held leads ranging from six to twelve points for a majority of the game before eventually losing on a last shot. Despite how devastating that finish was, the team cannot afford another loss to a team below them in the standings. Adding to the energy going into Saturday's game is Coach Patella's history at D&E. An Elkins native who coached the Senators for four seasons, he will be anxious to get a win, and his former team will be playing with a chip on their shoulder. If the 'Cats can control the emotions early, and keep Donte Doleman from getting hot offensively, there is no reason that they shouldn't take care of business and come home with a win.
