Hot Start Fades Against West Liberty

Shooting Percentages Flip in Second Half on Saturday

Recap

West Liberty certainly showed the crowd on Saturday why they are second in the nation in scoring. The Hilltoppers put up 64 points in the second half, and shot over 60% from behind the three-point line over those twenty minutes, eventually winning the game 97-67. The final score does not tell the whole story of the game however, as Wesleyan went into the half down only one point, and actually led for a majority of that first half. The shooting percentages flipped after halftime, as West Liberty followed up a 33.33% mark from the field in the first half, with an astounding 70.97% in the second. On the other side, Wesleyan controlled the pace in the first half and shot well at 51.85%, but got cold early on in the second and finished at just 39.29% over the final twenty. The Hilltoppers got lights-out shooting from three by two of their great scorers, Dalton Bolon and Will Yoakum, that changed the momentum quickly after the break. Luka Petrovic put together one of the best games of his 2019-20 season on Saturday for Wesleyan, falling just two rebounds and two assists shy of a triple-double.

What's Next

Wesleyan will look to fend off Notre Dame on Wednesday night at the Rockefeller Center. The Falcons will come into Wednesday only one game behind the Bobcats, and that one will be important for the MEC Tournament seeding come March.
West Liberty will bring their now-eleven game win streak to WVSU on Wednesday in what is sure to be a high-scoring affair. Both teams average over 95 points per game, but it's hard to think that any team can get in the way of the Hilltoppers right now.
