BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Jaylin Reed delivered another incredible effort by scoring a career-high 33 points as the West Virginia Wesleyan (0-5) men's basketball team surrendered the lead late to West Virginia State in a 94-89 loss at the Rockefeller Center in Buckhannon, W.Va. on Wednesday (Jan. 20).Â

"We weathered the storm," head coach
Nick Patella said. "Possession by possession, I felt like we were engaged. What I like about our guys is that we're looking to attack when the opportunity is there. We are getting better at making the correct play and giving ourselves legit chances."

Reed scored a career-high 33 points and ripped down nine rebounds.
Daylin Lee registered another double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Shawn Moran provided a spark off the bench with nine points and six rebounds.
Jayden Hibbitt also added nine points coming off of the bench.Â

Leaders for West Virginia State
Five Yellow Jackets scored in double figures led by Glen Abram with 21 points and eight assists. Jeremiah Moore added 19 points and eight boards.Â

West Virginia Wesleyan shot 42.5 percent (31-for-73) from the field. West Virginia State finished 26-for-42 from the free throw line. The contest featured seven lead changes and 10 ties.Â

Inside the First Half
Off to another strong start, Lee put the Bobcats ahead 8-2 less than two minutes into the first half after a driving layup. The Yellow Jackets settled in over the next five minutes and Reed knotted the game at 14-14 on a wing trey with 13:09 left.Â

Lee's tip-in as time expired in the first half gave WVWC a 47-42 advantage heading into the break.Â

Inside the Second Half
Less than a minute into the second half,
Jaret Mullooly drained his second 3-pointer of the game for a 50-44 Wesleyan edge. A Reed triple with 14:07 remaining put WVWC ahead 62-46.Â

Freshman
Zach Seese made a great post move for a layup followed by Moran bucket with 12:11 to go in the second half as the Bobcats led 66-59. Less than a minute later, West Virginia State tied the game at 66 points apiece.Â

Both teams continued to exchange points, but Glen Abram swished a trifecta to put the visitors ahead 84-77 with 5:40 left. Trailing 91-80 as only 1:36 remained, Wesleyan hung around and competed until the final whistle in the 94-89 decision.Â
