BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (6-4-1, 4-4-1) men's soccer team and Alderson Broaddus (5-7-0, 4-6-0) traded goals before the Battlers came out on top by a 3-2 final score on Wednesday (Oct. 13) at Culpepper Stadium.
 
The first half started with a goal from both teams coming in quick succession of each other. In the seventh minute, Chris Irakoze slotted home the Zacharias Kohring pass after the Battler keeper attempted to punch the ball off his line.
 
Two minutes later, the Battlers found their equalizer after Tanner Kidwell received a through ball from Andreas Rossak up the left wing. Kidwell steadied himself and hammered the ball past Logan Nelson into the back of the net.
 
Wesleyan broke the tie in the 53rd minute when Connor Hartwell sent a cross in off of a corner kick. Javier De Ona Garcia met the cross with his head on the edge of the goal area. De Ona Garcia flicked the cross over the AB keeper into the right side of the net to give WVWC a 2-1 advantage.
 
After Julian Trapp brought Alderson Broaddus even with Wesleyan in the 71st minute, Andreas Rossak gave the AB the advantage just two minutes later.  Rossak brought the ball deep into the Wesleyan penalty area and curled the ball around the diving hands of Nelson. AB did not relinquish the lead on the way to the 3-2 victory.
 
WVWC will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 17 at Culpepper Stadium against Concord in a 2 p.m. kickoff.
