WVWC Plays to a Draw Against Wheeling

Javier De Ona Garcia netted the lone goal for WVWC in a 1-1 draw against Wheeling.

WHEELING, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (6-5-2, 4-5-2) men's soccer team played Wheeling (4-8-1, 3-7-1) to a 1-1 draw against Wheeling on Wednesday (Oct. 20).

The first 25 minutes saw both teams battle in transition. Wheeling broke the deadlock in the 26th minute after Armondo Loynaz accepted the Rene Palma pass and slotted it past Logan Nelson.

Just nine minutes later, Javier De Ona Garcia received a pass from Chris Irakoze. De Ona Garcia turned to his right and smashed a curling ball from outside the penalty area. De Ona Garcia's shot beat the Cardinal keeper and the match was leveled 1-1 heading into the half.

Neither team could muster anything during the final 45 minutes of regulation and two Golden Goal overtime periods, giving WVWC its second draw of the season.

The Bobcats will be back in action on Sunday (Oct. 24) in Charleston against the Golden Eagles at 4 p.m.
