Women's Soccer Preview: West Virginia State & West Liberty

WVWC women's soccer hits the road again before a Halloween home contest.

The Basics

The West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer team travels to West Virginia State for an important matchup scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 27) before playing host to West Liberty a on Halloween at 3 p.m.

Quick Hits

  • The Bobcats come into another busy week on the back of a 2-0 away win at Glenville State, but lost to Charleston 3-0 on Sunday.

  • MaKatlyn Tucker's red hot run of form looks like it's not stopping any time soon after she netted the opener against Glenville State, increasing her tally to six goals this season.

  • Natalia Roppolo picked up her second assist of the season when she played through Tucker to open the scoring.

  • Senior Ashlyn Ray scored her first goal of the season with a left footed strike from 25 yards out that sailed into the bottom left corner of the Glenville State net.

Scouting West Virginia State

The Yellow Jackets lost 4-3 at Davis and Elkins last time out as their overall record sits at 9-4-1 (8-3-1 conference).

Fran Soares-Cupertino has 10 goals and one assist to her name including the winner against the Bobcats in Buckhannon.

Lisa Mann is in her third official season as the Yellow Jackets head coach.

Scouting West Liberty

The Hilltoppers are 6-5-3 overall and 5-4-3 in conference play after losing 1-0 to Concord. 

Kaelyn Oskin has four goals and two assists so far this season.

Barry Christmas is in his ninth season as the Hilltoppers head coach.

Fixture History

In the reverse fixture on Sunday, Sept. 26, the Yellow Jackets came out victorious in Buckhannon after a 76th minute strike from Fran Soares-Cupertino.

The Bobcats haven't faced the Hilltoppers since November of 2019 when Wesleyan came away with a 1-0 victory.
