Bobcats Fall at West Liberty

Anaya Hyman and Lexis Tatum both had seven kills, while Michela Ayers recorded two service aces.

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (3-18, 3-9) volleyball team dropped a road match versus West Liberty (17-11, 8-4) on Saturday (Oct. 30) at the Academic Sports & Recreation Complex.
 
WVWC Leaders
Lexis Tatum and Anaya Hyman each ripped seven kills. Payton Hefner passed 13 assists. Michela Ayers had multiple service aces. Libero Autumn Molenhouse snagged 10 digs. Hyman, Joelle Lalla, Milan Reynolds and Jenny Lundy each stuffed a block assist.
 
West Liberty Leaders
Riley Cudnik totaled a match-high 11 kills. Kirsten Bogunovich led the Hilltoppers in assists (24) and service aces (3). Nyia Setla accumulated 16 digs. Bogunovich, Madison Clayton and Nina Billotto each netted three total blocks.
 
Inside Set One
Wesleyan began the match winning six out of the first eight points. During this stretch, Tatum slammed three kills and Ayers recorded a service ace and a kill. The Hilltoppers captured their first lead of the day following a 6-0 run. The Bobcats tied the scoe at eight after a WLU bad set. West Liberty scored the next six points to build a 14-8 lead. WVWC responded and cut the gap to two points after netting four consecutive points. West Liberty took the next four points and led 18-12. The Hilltoppers took the first set, 25-15.
 
Inside Set Two
Hyman lofted a service ace and added a kill as the Bobcats took a 6-3 lead early in the second frame. The 'Toppers pulled ahead 9-6 after a 6-0 run. The Bobcats tied the score at 10 after a kill from Makenzie Yates and a WLU attack error. West Liberty regained the lead after a 5-0 run. A kill from Reynolds, a service ace from Molenhouse and a bad set put the 'Cats within two points. West Liberty ignited a 7-0 run and did not look back, winning the second set, 25-16.
 
Inside Set Three
West Liberty jumped out to an 8-3 lead to start the set. The Bobcats stormed back and went on a 9-2 run to take a 12-10 lead. The Hilltoppers responded and regained the lead after winning four consecutive points to go up 16-13. The 'Cats won the next three points to tie the score at 16. The Hilltoppers won nine out of the final 12 points to win set three, 25-19.

The Bobcats will be back on the road for a match at Concord on Tuesday (Nov. 2) that begins at 7 p.m.
