WVWC Edged by Frostburg State

Javier De Ona Garcia scored the lone goal for WVWC in a 2-1 defeat on Wednesday (Nov. 3).

FROSTBURG, Md. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (7-8-2, 5-8-2) men's soccer team traveled north to Maryland to face Frostburg State (8-8-1, 8-8-0) with Mountain East Conference Tournament implications on the line. Frostburg State prevailed by a final score of 2-1.

WVWC came out firing in the first half registering three shots on the Frostburg State goalkeeper within the first five minutes. The third attempt occurred in the fifth minute when Tanner Amos was striding down the right-wing. Amos delivered a pass across the Frostburg State keeper's face to a wide-open Javier De Ona Garcia, who buried the chance for the early advantage.

Frostburg settled into the match and found an equalizer in the 31st minute when Sam Cryer sent a cross to the head of Kenny Simms to beat the outstretched arms of Sahil Dhunnookchand.

Frostburg State took the lead just nine minutes into the second half when Caleb Dell made the long throw-in to his brother Isaiah Dell, who headed the ball into the back of the net.

Next up for WVWC is the regular season finale at Culpepper Stadium against No. 3 Davis & Elkins on Sunday (Nov. 7) at 7 p.m.
