Wesleyan Has Stellar Start in Loss at No. 20 Frostburg State

WVWC football got off to a fast start on the road.

FROSTBURG, Md. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (0-10) football team led after the first quarter and scored on its first two drives in a 55-14 loss at No. 20 Frostburg State (9-1) at Bobcat Stadium on Saturday (Nov. 6).
 
WVWC Leaders
Jamir Boyd went 14-for-24 in the air with a pair of touchdown passes. Devin Washington and Jujuan Linzy were on the receiving end of those throws. Javian Tomlinson carried the ball 18 times for a total of 84 yards. 
 
Keyon Brown led the way with eight tackles and a tackle for loss. Deontre Logan made six total tackles. Renard Matthews had tackles including one sack. 
 
Frostburg State Leaders
Gavin Lavat ran the ball 28 times for 227 yards and two touchdowns. Malik Morris made seven receptions for 146 yards and a score. 
 
Inside the First Half
Frostburg State drove the ball into WVWC territory on its opening drive. Linebacker Matthews broke loose and picked up a sack on first down for a loss of 10 back to the 29 yard line. FSU had to settle for a field goal on the drive. 
 
Wesleyan answered with a systematic drive down the field. Tomlinson busted a 16 yard run inside the Frostburg State redzone to the 19 yard line. Boyd tossed a back shoulder fade to Washington from five yards away for a touchdown with 3:43 left in the opening quarter. WVWC took a 7-3 advantage into the second quarter. 
 
After a Frostburg State field goal, Wesleyan put together another scoring drive. With 12:03 remaining in the second quarter, Boyd fired a nine yard dart to Linzy as the visitors from Buckhannon led 14-6. Frostburg State scored a total of 24 points in the second quarter to lead 27-14 at halftime. 
 
Inside the Second Half
Frostburg State marched 67 yards on its opening drive of the second half and Lavat punched it in from a yard out for a 34-14 lead with 8:11 to go in the third quarter. Zae Giles' three yard touchdown run within the first six seconds of the fourth quarter was one of three fourth quarter touchdowns for Frostburg State.
