ELKINS, W.Va. -- The game came down to the last shot inside the McDonnell Center on Wednesday, Feb. 10, but it rimmed out as Davis & Elkins (3-6) held on to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan (0-11) men's basketball in a hard fought contest, 83-80.

Leaders for WVWC
Jaylin Reed poured in 20 points in the second half for a total of 26. Reed finished 5-for-8 from behind the arc.
Ross Young recorded his fifth double-double of the year with a season-high 21 points and 11 rebounds.Â

Cameron Ramage (13 points) and
Marvel McGowan (eight points) provided sparks off of the bench.
Daylin Lee spread out eight assists.Â

Breland Walton scored a game-high 33 points and ripped down 14 rebounds. Gyasi Powell added 20 points and seven boards.Â

Davis & Elkins only turned the ball over five times. Wesleyan shot 50.8 percent (30-for-59) from the field and made 10 shots from beyond the arc.Â

Inside the First Half
Young placed the ball back in the hoop on a put-back dunk at the 14:45 mark of the first half as the Bobcats led 6-2. D&E went on a run and created an 18-9 advantage, but Ramage and McGowan answered with back-to-back triples (9:15 left in the first half).

Tommie Pope drove inside for a layup as WVWC trailed 30-25 with 4:26 remaining before halftime. Reed picked up a loose ball and converted a layup in the final seconds of the opening half as the Senators led 40-36 at the half.Â

Inside the Second Half
Young turned and scored in the lane to even things up at 40-40 a little over a minute into the second half. With 9:40 remaining in the second half, Young slammed home a dunk off of an assist by Lee to bring the Bobcats within two behind 58-56.

Reed was on fire from deep in the second half. His corner trey with 3:37 left in regulation put Wesleyan in front, 73-72. Both squads exchanged baskets until Davis & Elkins commanded an 82-77 lead with only 17 seconds ticking. Ramage buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key to keep the Bobcats alive, trailing 82-80 as seven seconds remained.Â

After a split trip at the charity stripe by Teemu Tumanoff of the Senators, Wesleyan had a chance to tie the game on a corner trifecta by McGowan that did not fall in a close 83-80 loss.Â
