Young Turns In Career Performance, West Virginia State Wins Barn Burner

Ross Young had a career-high 28 points and 14 rebounds while Jaret Mullooly lit it up from 3-point range.

INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- Ross Young posted career-highs in points and rebounds for the West Virginia Wesleyan (0-13) men's basketball team in a 104-92 loss at West Virginia State (6-6) inside the Walker Convocation Center on Saturday (Feb. 20). 
 
Leaders for WVWC
The Bobcats had four players score 20 points or more led by Young with his double-double of 28 points and 14 rebounds. 
 
Jaret Mullooly drained a career-best seven 3-pointers to finish with a career-high 21 points. Jaylin Reed has now scored at least 20 points in eight games this season after a 21-point display. Daylin Lee registered 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists. 
 
Leaders for West Virginia State
Glen Abram scored a game-high 47 points while Anthony Pittman collected a double-double of 14 points and 18 rebounds. 
 
Team Stats
West Virginia State shot 51.5 percent (17-for-33) from beyond the arc and made 12 shots from beyond the arc. The Bobcats finished 15-for-19 at the charity stripe. 
 
Inside the First Half
Mullooly came out firing and knocked down his second triple of the contest at the 17:32 mark of the opening half to give Wesleyan an early 10-3 edge. 
 
After a Mullooly steal, Daylin Lee converted the fastbreak layup on the other end with 13:09 remaining as the Bobcats led 20-15. WVWC turned defense into offense again when Reed poked the ball loose and made a coast-to-coast layup to extend the Bobcat advantage to 29-15 and cap off a 13-0 run nearly halfway through the first half. 
 
The Yellow Jackets outscored Wesleyan by a 41-7 margin to close out the first half with a 56-36 advantage. 
 
Inside the Second Half
With their work cut out for them, the Bobcats trimmed the deficit to 77-66 with 9:44 left after a layup by Young. Reed nailed a trifecta to bring the visitors within 10 (79-69) as 8:43 remained in regulation. 
 
WVSU worked the ball inside to fend off Wesleyan down the stretch. Young muscled in the paint for a bucket but Abram immediately answered for the Yellow Jackets with a 3-pointer as West Virginia State led 99-88 with 1:17 to go.

WVWC men's basketball is scheduled to return home to host Concord on Wednesday (Feb. 24) at 7:30 p.m.
