Men's Basketball Preview: Davis & Elkins & Charleston

WVWC men's basketball head coach Nick Patella will face his former team on the road on Wednesday (Feb. 10) before welcoming Charleston to town on Saturday (Feb. 13).

The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan men's basketball team is scheduled to travel to nearby Davis & Elkins on Wednesday (Feb. 10) at 7:30 p.m. before returning to the Rockefeller Center to play host to Charleston on Saturday (Feb. 13) at 4:30 p.m.
 
Quick Hits
• Sophomore guard Jaylin Reed is the team's leading scorer averaging 19.0 points a contest through his first seven games. Reed scored a career-high 33 points against West Virginia State on Wednesday (Jan. 20). 
• Reed has scored at least 20 points in five games this season.
• Ross Young has compiled four double-doubles this season, the last occurrence was on Wednesday (Feb. 3) when the senior scored 17 points and hauled in 10 rebounds. Young nearly had another one when he tallied 19 points and had nine boards in a road loss at West Liberty on Sunday (Feb. 7). 
• Junior forward Daylin Lee scored a season-high 23 points on Monday (Feb. 1) in an 88-70 defeat at Notre Dame (Ohio). Lee has scored in double figures in five consecutive games. 
• Nick Patella enters his second season as the West Virginia Wesleyan head coach. Prior to WVWC, Patella served as the head coach of nearby Davis & Elkins for four years. The Elkins, W. Va., native played basketball at West Virginia University under John Beilein from 2002-05 and was a member of the 2004-05 Mountaineers Elite Eight team. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at WVWC. 
 
Scouting Davis & Elkins
The Senators are 2-6 overall following a 98-91 home loss to Notre Dame (Ohio). 
 
Junior forward Breland Walton is averaging a double-double of 18.8 points per game and 11.1 rebounds per game. Walton put up 18 points and eight rebounds in the loss to NDC on Monday (Feb. 8). 
 
Freshman Sam Rolle IV is averaging 18.4 points per game and has dished out a total of 62 assists this year. Rolle IV scored 23 points and distributed nine assists against Notre Dame (Ohio). 
 
Daniel Mondragon is in his second season as the head coach of the Senators. Before arriving in Elkins, Mondragon was the head coach and director of player development at DME Sports Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida. 
 
Scouting Charleston
Charleston sits atop the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region rankings with an 8-2 mark. The Golden Eagles have won eight consecutive games heading into a showdown at West Virginia State on Wednesday (Feb. 10). 
 
Lamont McManus is the current Charleston leading scorer at 14.8 points per game followed by Eddie Colbert III who averages 12.4 points a night and 6.4 rebounds per game. 
 
Dwaine Osborne enters his eighth season at the helm of the Charleston men's basketball program. Prior to Charleston, Osborne served as the head coach at Texas-Permian Basin for four seasons. Osborne carries a 142-78 record as head coach of the Golden Eagles.
