Tennis Preview: Salem

WVWC men's and women's tennis welcomes Salem to Buckhannon on Tuesday (March 16) before the women take on West Liberty at home the following day.

The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan men's and women's tennis programs play host to Salem on Tuesday (March 16) at 3 p.m. before the Bobcat women's tennis program welcomes West Liberty to town on Wednesday (March 17) at 4 p.m.
 
Quick Hits
  • The Bobcat men's tennis team was selected to finish second in the 2021 Mountain East Conference Preseason poll. WVWC finished with 31 total points and a first place vote, only ranking behind Charleston (36).
  • Wesleyan men's tennis finished the shortened 2020 campaign with a record of 5-3 and fell in the 2021 season opener at West Liberty. 
  • Wesleyan women's tennis finished the 2020 campaign at 0-3 before the season was cut short. 
  • A new season brings a new face leading the Bobcat tennis program. Jay Evans enters his first year at the helm of the tennis program, following a stint at fellow MEC conference member Davis & Elkins. Evans' high-energy provides a spark and swagger to the tennis program.
Scouting Salem Men's Tennis
The Tigers lost their season opener, 6-1 at Edinboro on Sunday (March 14).
 
Scouting Salem Women's Tennis
Victories from Airi Ohashi, Iryna Rusyn and Kristina Vuksanovic paced Salem to victory (4-3) over Edinboro on Sunday, March 14. The Tigers are 1-1 overall this season. 
 
Scouting West Liberty Women's Tennis
The Hilltoppers are 2-1 after a 7-0 decision over Seton Hill on Saturday (March 13). All of West Liberty's players won their singles matches in straight sets against the Griffins besides Gemma Cliffe who took the tiebreaking set to claim the win.
