Wesleyan Defeats Concord Behind Antolock’s 18 Kills

Antolock's career night lifted the 'Cats over the Mountain Lions.

ATHENS, W.Va. -- Lauryn Antolock posted a career-high 18 kills for the West Virginia Wesleyan (6-3) volleyball team in a 3-1 road victory over Concord (0-7) on Tuesday (March 2) night at the Carter Center in Athens, W.Va.
 
WVWC Leaders
The Bobcats had four individual players who notched double-digit kill totals. Antolock led the charge with 18 kills while southpaw Anaya Hyman added 15 kills. Freshman Lexis Tatum had 14 kills and senior Emily Doyle picked up 12 kills.
 
Payton Hefner fed the Bobcats' attackers and had 43 assists. The junior from Bridgeport, W.Va. smashed a season-high four service aces as well. Hyman threw in three service aces for WVWC.
 
Defensively, Autumn Molenhouse picked up 13 crucial digs and had 32 receptions without committing a reception error. Tatum added 11 digs to her stat sheet and had 23 receptions.
 
Concord Leaders
Concord's Amber Hall led the Mountain Lions in the kills column with 14. Hall also had three block solos and four block assists. Imani Rodgers (22) and Kristin Lough (19) both dished out double-figure assist totals. Libero Lindsay Maddox had a game-high 24 digs for CU.
 
Inside the First Set
With the score tied at 15, Tatum connected on a kill to put the Bobcats ahead. Wesleyan did not trail after this point and took the first set 25-21. Antolock (4), Tatum (3), Doyle (3) and Hyman (3) accounted for 13 out of the 16 Bobcat kills in the first frame.
 
Inside the Second Set
Late in the second set, Concord held a six point advantage over Wesleyan, leading 20-14. The 'Cats went on an 8-2 run to tie the score at 22. A Hyman kill gave Wesleyan a 25-24 lead. The Mountain Lions came back and won set two 29-27.
 
Inside the Third Set
The crucial third set featured 20 tie scores and 10 lead changes. With WVWC facing a 24-21 deficit, Hefner set Tatum up for a kill to put the Bobcats down two points. Hyman smashed an ace to cut the Mountain Lions' lead to one. Wesleyan forced an attack error to tie the third set at 24.
 
Both teams traded the next eleven points to make the score 29-29. Antolock closed out the match with two consecutive kills to give the 'Cats a 31-29 set three win. Antolock and Hyman were clutch for Wesleyan and each had six kills in the back-and-forth third set.
 
Inside the Fourth Set
The Mountain Lions jumped out to an 11-5 lead early in the fourth set. WVWC reclaimed a 14-13 lead after an Antolock kill. Concord tied the score at 17. 
 
After a CU service error, the Bobcats took the next three points and claimed a 21-17 lead. Hyman smashed a service ace to put the Bobcats up four. Concord cut the margin to 23-20. But Antolock finished the night with two kills to give the Bobcats set four 25-20 and the match 3-1.

WVWC volleyball is scheduled to play their final regular season match on Friday (March 5) against Davis & Elkins on the road. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
