WVWC Falls in Season Opener

Wesleyan loses 7-0 in the season opener.

Box Score WHEELING, W.Va.— The West Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team opened up the spring season against West Liberty on Saturday afternoon (March 6). The Bobcats fell 7-0 to the Hilltoppers.
 
In doubles WVWC dropped all three matches. The duo of Taylor Papworth and Anthony McIntosh lost a tough contest to the No.1 duo of West Liberty losing 6-7 with three tiebreaks. Wesleyans No.2 and No.3 both lost to the Hilltoppers 2-6.
 
In singles No.1 Taylor Papworth had a strong start winning the first set 7-5. Papworth fought hard but dropped the final two sets 4-6.
 
At No.2, after dropping the first set Salvi saved match points at 6-1 and 5-1 to fight back and force a third set. Salvi dropped the third set 3-6.
 
Wesleyan dropped the next four singles matches in straight sets. Haruki Iizuka made his first collegiate appearance in the lineup for the 'Cats.
 
Up next for the men is a contest against Salem University on Tuesday, March 16. The match will take place in Buckhannon W.Va. at 3 p.m.
