FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State (15-7) took control of both games early against the West Virginia Wesleyan (8-8) softball team at Duvall-Rosier Field on Thursday, April 15.
Game One (Fairmont State 8, WVWC 0)
A three-run homer over the left field fence by Cierra Chastain put the Falcons ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning.
The Bobcats loaded the bases in the top of the sixth inning after a single by
Kennedy Cowart and back-to-back walks, but Chastain pitched out of the jam.
Fairmont State scored five runs in the bottom half of the sixth to bring the game to a close.
Cowart finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
Game Two (Fairmont State 7, WVWC 1)
Following a base-loaded walk in the bottom of the second, back-to-back 2-run doubles by Meadow Anderso and Emily Riggs handed Fairmont State an early 5-0 advantage.
With the bases full in the top of the fourth inning,
Bella Posey drove in
Kennedy Cowart on a fielder's choice as the Bobcats trailed 6-1.
Paige Maltby tossed two scoreless innings in relief.
