WHEELING, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (10-8) softball team bounced back with a doubleheader sweep of Wheeling (9-23) at the JB Chambers Complex on Saturday (April 17).Â

Game One (WVWC 6, Wheeling 1)
Kiley Turner put Wesleyan on the board first with a sacrifice fly to center.
Kelley Bourne lined a single to right field to score
Kennedy Cowart and
Bella Posey singled through the left side of the infield for a 3-0 advantage after one inning.Â
Â
In the top of the fifth,
Kelley Bourne crushed a solo homer over the fence in straightaway center. WVWC tacked on a couple of more insurance runs in the top of the sixth on a sac-bunt to the circle by Cowart and a
Lauryn King RBI single to left field as the visitors led 6-0.

Abigail O'Shields (5-4) went the distance and only allowed one run (a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning). O'Shields struck out seven batters.Â

King finished 3-for-4 at the plate as three more Bobcats (Bourne, Smith and
Grace Hightower) registered multi-hit games.Â

Game Two (WVWC 9, Wheeling 1)
Brooke Clark led off the game with a home run to left field. Wesleyan added two more runs in the top of the first after a sac-bunt by Turner and a Bourne RBI single up the middle.Â

The Cardinals got a run back in the bottom of the first, but Smith responded for the Bobcats with a single up the middle to plate
Molly Osborne in the second inning. Smith wasn't done yet, she doubled home Osborne in the top of the fourth. Back-to-back fielding errors by Wheeling handed WVWC a 7-1 lead.Â

Cowart reached on a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth as Osborne came around to score again. King drove in another run on the day with a single to center.Â

Up 9-1,
Paige Maltby (1-1) picked up her first collegiate victory in the circle. Maltby cruised in the five-inning road win.Â
Â
Smith went 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of RBI. Bourne, Clark and Osborne also recorded a pair of hits to help WVWC take advantage of five total Wheeling errors.Â
