Bobcats Thrive in Road Contest Against D&E

WVWC took down the Senators 7-0 on Monday (April 19).

ELKINS, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team took control right from the start to beat Davis & Elkins, 7-0 at the Thomas Tennis Center on Monday (April 19).

Doubles action saw WVWC take all three matches. Starting at No. 3, Camillo Salvi and Anthony McIntosh dispatched the Senator duo 6-2 to win the opening match.

At No. 1, Harry Simaioforidis and Taylor Papworth were taken to a tiebreaker but would not be denied, eventually winning (7-6). The victory clinched the doubles point for the 'Cats.

The final match at No. 2 consisted of the Wesleyan duo of Carlos Dodero Fernandez and Haruki IIzuka. Much like No. 1, this match was taken to a tiebreaker. The duo did not concede a point in the tiebreaker winning 6-0 to finish the match 7-6 (6-0).

Singles action saw similar results from WVWC. Fresh off his Mountain East Conference Player of the Week award Dodero Fernandez took down Alvaro Legoinha (6-1, 6-1) at No. 1.

Papworth moved up the lineup to No. 2, the move by head coach Jay Evans proved to be smart as Papworth defeated his opponent (6-1, 6-2) to put the Bobcats up 3-0.

Salvi clinched the match for the 'Cats at No. 4 when he defeated Vinicius Azeredo (6-1, 6-2). Simaioforidis and McIntosh bested their opponents at No. 3 and No. 6 both by a final mark of 6-2, 6-2.

Finally, at No. 5 was an entertaining match between Haruki IIzuka and Jacob Bowman. IIzuka was composed throughout to take the match by a final of (6-2, 6-3) to round out the scoring.

The Bobcats have a quick turnaround to play again on Tuesday (April 20) at home again against Frostburg State in Buckhannon at 3 p.m.
