Frostburg State Outlasts Wesleyan in Overtime

WVWC women's soccer fell in a hard-fought contest on a golden goal.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (4-2-0) women's soccer team battled in a 1-0 overtime defeat to Frostburg State (4-1-1) on Friday (April 2) at Ross Field. Before the game, WVWC women's soccer honored its seven seniors (Kaitlyn Emmons, Bailey Heubi, Allison Crecelius, Olivia Simmons, Taylor Maucere, Chrystal Posada and Kayla Fay).
 
Frostburg State outshot Wesleyan by a 5-0 margin in the first half as the game was scoreless heading into the halftime break.
 
Both teams had chances in the second half. In the 79th minute, Beth Burchett sent a shot to the left of the goal. Posada fired a shot to the bottom center that was saved by the Frostburg State goalkeeper, Ashley Bilger. The game remained deadlocked 0-0 at the end of regulation.
 
In overtime during the 98th minute, Ally Moore made a fantastic save on a dive to her left to stop a shot from Frostburg State's Lela Clark.
 
Audra Curtin, who had the game-winning goal in the first meeting between these two teams sent the ball into the bottom right corner of the net in the 102nd minute for the golden goal.
 
Wesleyan's next scheduled contest is at Alderson Broaddus at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 9.
