Jonas' Equalizer Forces Draw

A late goal by Danielle Jonas sent the game to overtime, but neither team scored the golden goal as Wesleyan drew with Alderson Broaddus on the road.

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – A late goal in regulation by Danielle Jonas forced overtime as the West Virginia Wesleyan (4-2-1) women's soccer team played Alderson Broaddus (0-4-2) to a 1-1 draw on Friday (April 9) at the Multi-Sport Performance Stadium.

Wesleyan fired four shots on goal over the first 13 minutes of the first half. However, it was the Battlers that struck first in the 16th minute when Bianca Purpura knocked the ball into the lower left corner of the net.

The score remained 1-0 until the 81st minute when Morgan Mitchell set the ball up high to Jonas, who rocketed the ball over the goalkeeper's head into the top left corner of the net for the equalizer.

Six minutes into the first half of overtime, Natalia Roppolo ripped a shot that was collected in goal. The Lady Bobcats found a couple of chances in the second half of overtime, but neither team delivered the golden goal.

Ally Moore recorded five saves for Wesleyan.

Next up for WVWC women's soccer is its final contest of the regular season at Davis & Elkins on Sunday, March 14.
