Softball Preview: Frostburg State, Concord & Glenville State

The Bobcats enter a crucial road stretch as the regular season begins to wind down.

The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan softball team is set for a road swing as the final stretch of the regular season approaches. WVWC visits Frostburg State (April 27), Concord (April 30) and Glenville State (May 1) for doubleheader meetings. 
 
Quick Hits
• Lauryn King hit a 3-run homer and grand slam en route to a nine RBI performance against Davis & Elkins on Tuesday (April 26) in game two. 9 RBI is currently the best for a single game in NCAA Division-II this season and tied for the single game high across all NCAA levels in 2021.
• Kiley Turner hit a pair of home runs in Friday's (April 23) doubleheader against No. 25 Charleston including the go-ahead solo shot to left in game two. 
• Brooke Clark currently leads Wesleyan with five home runs. King and Kelley Bourne have both hit four homers so far this season. 
• Molly Osborne drove in four runs including two on the go-ahead single in the eighth inning during a 7-5 victory at West Liberty on April 18. 
• Abigail O'Shields spun a no-hitter in a five-inning, 9-0 victory over Glenville State on Saturday (March 27). Her overall record is 6-4. 
• Clark and King are tied for the team-lead in RBI (23). 
• Kennedy Cowart paces the Bobcats in batting average (.405). 
• Steve Warner enters his 29th season as the head coach of the Wesleyan softball program. He has accumulated an astonishing 1089-407-1 overall record during that span. 
 
Scouting Frostburg State
Frostburg State carries a 21-10 overall record and 19-7 MEC mark into the Tuesday doubleheader after dropping a pair of contests to West Liberty on Monday, April 26. 
 
Sam Carver leads the Bobcats in batting average (.372) and RBI (26). Aliyah Ramey has clubbed a team-best six home runs and driven in 23 RBI. 
 
Shawna Leonard is 11-3 with a 1.82 earned run average and a whopping 112 strikeouts. Leonard has five complete game shutouts to her credit. 
 
Bill Vasko is the head coach of the Frostburg State softball program. 
 
Scouting Concord
The Concord softball team is currently 13-19 overall and 11-13 in the MEC. 
 
Jenna Witt leads the Mountain Lions in batting average (.433), home runs (4) and triples (5).  
 
Cartney Schoolcraft (5.13 ERA, 60 strikeouts) and Laura Thompson (5.48 ERA, 79 strikeouts) are the two consistent starting pitchers for Concord.  
 
Alisa Tasler is in her 10th season in charge with a 242-231 overall record. 
 
Scouting Glenville State
The Glenville State softball team is 8-27 overall coming off a road doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame (Ohio) on Monday, April 26. 
 
Mackenzie Martinelli (.394 average, 3 HR, 24 RBI) and Karra Smith (.348 average, 4 HR, 28 RBI) have been the two most dangerous Pioneer offensive threats. 
 
Former WVWC softball standout and assistant Sara Scoone is in her first season as the head coach at Glenville State.
