Delgado Hits Homer, Falcons Take Two from Bobcats

Adrian Delgado and Nick Grotti both recorded 3-hit games at the plate.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (0-6) baseball team began its home slate in a doubleheader against Notre Dame (Ohio) (8-10) at Hank Ellis Field on Saturday (April 3). The Falcons prevailed in both games.

Game One (NDC 13, WVWC 6)
Ben Ross led off the game with a solo homer over the left field fence. Notre Dame (Ohio) scored 11 runs in the top of the third, highlighted by another solo shot by Ross.

Behind 12-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Andrew Walker crossed home plate after a wild pitch. A batter later, Eric Forbrick doubled home Bryson Fluke and Geovani Sostre. Adrian Delgado placed a single into left center to bring in Forbrick as Wesleyan trailed 12-4 after five innings.

In the bottom of the seventh, Delgado blasted a solo homer over the fence in left field to round out the scoring. Mitchell Courtney (0-2) took the loss. Jake Mauzy, Parker Tallman and Anthony Napoleon all tossed scoreless innings in relief.

Game Two (NDC 6, WVWC 4)
The Bobcats struck first in game two off of a Sam Ross single through the left side of the infield in the bottom of the second inning.

Ross homered again for NDC in the top of the third, a 2-run home run to move the Falcons in front. The Falcons took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth when Cade Leach singled up the middle to plate Delgado and Nick Grotti.

Grotti tied the game 4-4 on a sharply hit ground ball to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Notre Dame (Ohio) grabbed the lead back on a pair of RBI singles in the top of the seventh and held on to take game two, 6-4. Mauzy (0-1) was saddled with the loss.
