Wesleyan Walks It Off En Route to Doubleheader Sweep

Nick Grotti went 3-for-3 and Adrian Delgado delivered the walk-off double in game one before WVWC baseball took game two, 7-3.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (2-6) baseball team won in walk-off fashion before finishing off a doubleheader sweep of Alderson Broaddus (5-7) on Monday, April 5.

"It all came together in both ball games," head coach Randy Tenney said. "We fell behind early, but bounced back. Give our players credit for hanging in there and getting some timely hits."

Game One (WVWC 5, AB 4)
A Bobcat error led to three Battler runs in the top of the first inning.

Wesleyan answered in the bottom of the third when Nick Grotti delivered a single to left field scoring Eric Forbrick. The Bobcats tacked on another run in the frame after an error by the Alderson Broaddus right fielder.

Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Adrian Delgado placed an RBI double into the gap in left center. Cade Leach reached on an infield single to first as Grotti crossed home plate to tie the game, 4-4.

After a Grotti double in the bottom of the seventh, Blake McMullen was called upon to pinch run. Delgado drilled another double to left field as McMullen scored the winning run.

In a starting role, Michael Maiolo struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings of work. Anthony Napoleon (1-1) picked up the win throwing 2.2 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts.

Game Two (WVWC 7, AB 3)
The Battlers struck first in game two as well after a 2-run double by Tylin James in the top of the second inning.

Wesleyan responded in the bottom of the third on a run-scoring single up the middle by Tanner McCallister. He later scored on a wild pitch.

The Bobcats plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth on an error, hit-by-pitch and wild pitch to control a 5-2 advantage. McCallister drove in Leach on a sac-fly in the bottom of the fifth before Bryson Fluke ripped a single to center as Sam Ingram touched home plate for a 7-2 lead.

Parker Tallman (1-1) earned the win on the mound tossing 3.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
