Series Opens with Split

Alec Tamburri picked up his first collegiate win against Glenville State on Saturday (May 1).

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (5-21) baseball team found a way to win game one before Glenville State (14-17) responded to take the second game in a doubleheader at Hank Ellis Field on Saturday (May 1).

Game One (WVWC 6, Glenville State 5)
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Eric Forbrick laced a 2-run single to center to put the Bobcats in front. Tyler Ostendorf was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Forbrick later scored on a passed ball as Wesleyan led 4-1 after one inning.

The score remained 4-1 until the Pioneers scored four runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning. A Nick Grotti RBI sacrifice fly evened the score at 5-5 in the bottom half of the fourth.

Alec Tamburri (1-0) tossed 3.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

A wild pitch allowed Forbrick to score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth before Colin Bryant shut the door to pick up the save. Adrian Delgado finished 3-for-3 at the plate.

Game Two (Glenville State 8, WVWC 2)
Three RBI singles by Matthew Mangum, Tre'von Smith and Ryker Rivera extended the GSC advantage to 5-0 after two innings.

The Bobcats got on the board after an RBI sacrifice fly to left by Delgado in the bottom of the third. Another run-scoring sacrifice fly, this time by Cade Leach in the bottom of the fifth put the score at 6-2 in favor of the visitors.

On the mound, Connor Gottholm worked out of two bases-loaded jams and struck out two batters.
