CHARLESTON, W.Va.-- The West Virginia Wesleyan men's tennis team was in action on Saturday (May 8) in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The fourth-seeded Bobcats took on the No. 1 seed Charleston in the opening round. The Golden Eagles defeated the 'Cats 4-1 to conclude the 2021 season.

Charleston started the match by taking the doubles point after winning at No. 1 and No. 2.

The Bobcats started singles play with first set victories on five of the six courts.

UC took a 2-0 lead after a straight-set victory at No. 5.

Taylor Papworth would chip away at the lead with a convincing victory at No. 2. Papworth dominated the match from start to finish, winning (6-0, 6-2) and making the score 2-1.

The Bobcats could not muster up another point. UC would collect wins at No. 6 and No. 3 to round out the scoring.

WVWC finishes the 2021 season with a record of 7-6.
