Wesleyan Unleashes Late Offensive Onslaught to Cruise Past Wheeling

WVWC men's soccer scored three goals from the 81st to 84th minute to take care of business.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (3-0-0, 2-0-0) men's soccer team unleashed a barrage of goals late in the second half to defeat Wheeling (2-1-0, 1-1-0) by a final score of 4-0 on Wednesday (Sept. 15) at Culpepper Stadium.

After a foul on Wheeling's Hugo Rodriguez, Nika Monaselidze converted a penalty kick for a goal with a strike into the bottom left corner of the net during the 19th minute. Wesleyan controlled a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Both teams had goals taken away in the second half (WVWC handball & Wheeling offsides).

The Bobcats began a scoring onslaught in the 81st minute when Nugzar Barkaia dragged the ball past the diving Wheeling goalkeeper for a 2-0 advantage. Less than a minute later, Monaselidze crossed the ball to Charlie Naylor to knock it into the back of the net.

WVWC wasn't done, Tanner Amos scored his second goal of the season off of an assist from Javier De Ona Garcia in the 84th minute as the home all of a sudden went ahead 4-0. Logan Nelson picked up two saves during the clean sheet.

The Bobcats are back at home on Sunday, Sept. 19 against No. 1 Charleston with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
