WVWC Posts Clean Sheet in Road Win

A first half goal by Makatlyn Tucker and five saves by Ally Moore fueled a 1-0 win at Davis & Elkins.

ELKINS, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (2-4-1, 2-3-1) women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 road victory over Davis & Elkins (1-5-0, 1-4-0) at Nuttall Field on Wednesday, Sept. 29.

Both teams put shots on goal early as Nicole Olaya tried to scoop a shot into the top left of the net in the 13th minute, but Ally Moore was there for the Bobcat save. Wesleyan played with an advantage after a red card was assessed to Azalea Ayala of Davis & Elkins in the 21st minute.

In the 27th minute, Wesleyan earned a corner kick taken by Ellie Pergolotti. The corner from the Cheshire, Conn., freshman found the foot of MaKatlyn Tucker in motion in the six-yard box. The senior from Salem, W.Va., delivered the ball into the bottom left corner of the net as WVWC grabbed a 1-0 advantage.

Both teams ripped off seven total shots (five on goal for the Senators, four on goal for the Bobcats). Davis & Elkins got another chance in the 89th minute when Olaya tried to score again, but Moore was there for her fifth save of the contest. Moore's five saves helped the Bobcats post their second clean sheet of the season.

WVWC is scheduled to return to Culpepper Stadium for a home match against Fairmont State at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3.
