Women's Soccer Preview: Alderson Broaddus & Concord

WVWC women's soccer will play two road conference matches this week.

The Basics
West Virginia Wesleyan (2-7-1, 2-5-1) women's soccer is preparing for two road contests this week. Wesleyan is set to play at Alderson Broaddus on Wednesday (Oct. 5) at 5 p.m. before traveling to Beckley, W.Va. on Sunday (Oct. 9) for a contest at Concord beginning at 7 p.m.

Scouting Alderson Broaddus
Alderson Broaddus has dropped six conference matches and has played to a pair of ties. AB fell to Davis & Elkins on Sunday (Oct. 2), 4-1.

Jacqueline Garcia, Morgan Griffith and Alieza Vargas Deason all have scored two goals for the Battlers. Garcia, a sophomore from Victorville, Calif., has fired the most shots (10) and shots on goal (six) for AB. Oliva Kqira, from Pottstown, Pa., has handled the goalkeeping duties for the Battlers. In nine games, Kqira has recorded 83 saves, which is the highest total in the MEC.

Jaron Hulme is the head coach for AB women's soccer. Hulme has been affiliated with AB women's soccer since the 2016 season as the assistant coach and was elevated to the head position in 2018.
 
Scouting Concord
The defending MEC Champions enter this week in fourth place in the MEC South Division with a conference record of 3-4-1. Concord cruised to a 5-1 win last time versus WVWC at Ross Field on Sept. 14.

Jayme Millard has recorded six goals in eight games for the Mountain Lions. Millard's 1.63 points per game rank sixth overall in the MEC. The striker from Australia scored three times last time playing WVWC. CU goalkeeper Leah Marsh has stopped 44 shots for saves. The Morgantown, W.Va. native owns the third-highest saves total in the MEC.

Luke Duffy has been the head coach of Mountain Lions women's soccer since 2016. Duffy, the 2021 MEC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year, has won 77 games during his tenure leading Concord and took CU to the elite eight in the 2021 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament.

The Bobcats return home on Oct. 12 to square off versus Glenville State. Wesleyan will welcome Charleston to Buckhannon on Oct. 16.
