BUCKHANNON, W.Va.-- West Virginia Wesleyan Tennis waited out the weather on Thursday (Apr. 14) to take on the Senators from Davis & Elkins. The women's team defeated the Senators 4-2 while the men dropped their contest 5-2.
On the women's side WVWC, got the early advantage with wins at no. 2 and 3 to clinch the doubles point. The doubles pairings of
Madison Chen &
Molly Hull and
Rebecca Osborne and
Cayley Symons took down their opponents to take the 1-0 lead. The Senators were able to chip away at the lead with victories at no. 1 and 2 in singles. However, Symons, Osborne and Chen all perservered and won their individual matches to clinch the match for the Bobcats. Symons won her matchup 6-1, 6-1 at no. 3 to give the 'Cats their second point. While Osborne won 6-2, 6-0 at no. 4 to give WVWC the 3-0 advantage. Chen scored the fourth and final point with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win at no. 5.
The men's team struggled on the afternoon with the only two points coming from a singles victory from
Camillo Salvi and
Anthony McIntosh at no. 3 and 5. Salvi needed a third set to take down his opponent 7-6, 6-3, 6-2. While McIntosh won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 at no. 5.
