ELKINS, W.Va.-- WVWC tennis took down Davis & Elkins on Friday (Apr. 22) to secure a bid into the Mountain East Conference tournament. The 'Cats defeated their opposition 5-2 in the winning effort.
WVWC got the scoring action started with wins at no. 1 and 3 in doubles play to secure the opening point in the contest. The double pairings of
Taylor Papworth and
Khiro Karasawa won 6-0 at no. 1 while
Nicolas Zumba and
Ethan Thomas won 6-3 at no. 3 to give WVWC first blood.
Karasawa and Papworth both won their matchups in singles with Papworth using a third set to defeat his opponent at no. 2, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. The two victories gave WVWC the 3-0 advantage.
Camillo Salvi and
Anthony McIntosh would defeat their opponents at no. 3 and 5 to secure the match and round out the scoring for WVWC. Salvi won in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to claim his match at no. 3, while McIntosh won 6-3,6-3 at no. 5 to follow suite.
