BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball is set to host the Senators of Davis & Elkins on Saturday at 4 p.m. D&E has won six out of the last seven contests against the Bobcats, winning 82-69 on February 26, 2022 in their last meeting.
DAVIS & ELKINS SENATORS
The Senators enter (9-8) overall and (3-8) in MEC play. D&E started out the season (9-4) but have since lost their last four, most recently losing at Fairmont State 93-78 on Wednesday night.
Davis & Elkins relies on their defense, allowing 79.1 PPG which ranks them 4
th in the MEC. In their recent struggles, the Senators have dropped mightily on the offensive end. They rank 9
th in Scoring Offense (77.9 PPG), 10
th in FG% (44%) and 3-Point FG% (33%), and 9
th in 3-Point FGs Made (7.2 AVG/G).
Sam Rolle IV is the 6
th leading scorer in the MEC and leads the Senators, averaging 18.5 PPG. Rolle IV also leads the MEC in assists at 5.8 APG. D&E features three other scorers averaging double-figures: Vadim Clanet (13.7 PPG), Breland Walton (11.3 PPG) and Evan Busby (10.5). Clanet is the leading board getter for the Senators, grabbing 6.6 RPG.
Daniel Mondragon is in his fourth season as the leader of the Davis & Elkins MBB Program. Mondragon has coached the MEC Freshman of the Year in 2020-21 (Sam Rolle IV) and an All-MEC Second Team honoree (Breland Walton). Mondragon was previously the Head Coach at the elite DME Sports Academy in Daytona Beach, Fla. He recruited high school and post-grad students and was the Director of Player Development. He also served as an assistant for several years at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University prior to DME.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
The Bobcats enter (2-13) overall and (2-9) in MEC play. Wesleyan is coming off a key victory against Frostburg State at home 81-71.
WVWC now ranks 4
th in the MEC in Steals (8.7 AVG) after getting 15 steals against Frostburg State. The Bobcats continue to sit at the bottom of the league in many statistical categories but are gaining ground each game.
Darius Green upped his average to 17.6 PPG (8
th MEC) after his season-high 29 points against Frostburg State. Green's 6.6 RPG and 2.0 APG also lead the Bobcats.
Tyler Slone is averaging 12.1 PPG and
Anthony Craven Jr. has returned from injury and is putting in 11.5 PPG for the Bobcats.
