Bobcat's Volleyball Loses 6th Straight Match to West Virginia State

The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats traveled to West Virginia State for another conference matchup during their 2023 campaign. After coming off a loss to Concord University in their previous conference matchup, the Bobcats would be looking to get their 1st win in conference and snap their 5 game losing streak. The Bobcats would remain in their slump and lose to the Yellow Jackets in 3 straight sets, falling to 4-11 on the season and 0-5 in conference.

During this match between the Yellow Jackets, the Bobcats got off to a very slow start which would lead to them losing the first set 14-25. The West Virginia State Yellow Jackets were led by Diamond'Nique Young, who finished the game with 13 kills, showing her dominance throughout the entire match. This sluggish start would carry over into the entire match leading to the Bobcats losing set 2, 11-25 and set 3, 9-25. The Yellow Jackets were dominant throughout this match and shut down any comeback that the Bobcats had in mind. In defeat the Bobcats were led by seniors Jayla Cowherd and Makenzie Yates who combined for 10 kills. They were also assisted by freshman Sophie Gerlach who finished this match with 11 assist.

The Bobcats will continue its 2023 campaign against Davis and Elkins on Tuesday Oct.10th at 7 p.m. in the Rockefeller Center. The Bobcats will be looking to end this 6 game losing streak and get their first conference win of the 2023 season.
