Preview: Wesleyan And Yellow Jackets To Square Off On Saturday

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball hits the road on Saturday to face West Virginia State in Institute at 4 p.m. The Yellow Jackets won the matchup earlier in the season 106-76 in Buckhannon. WVSU have won the last nine meetings with the Bobcats.

WEST VIRGINIA STATE YELLOW JACKETS
The Yellow Jackets enter (16-7) overall and (10-7) in MEC play. WV State has lost six of their last seven, losing to Davis & Elkins on the road 91-82 on Wednesday.

WVSU ranks 8th in the country and 3rd in the conference in Scoring Offense, averaging 89.4 PPG. The Yellow Jackets are also 3rd in the MEC in 3PFG% (37%) and 3PFGs Made (10.2 AVG/G). WV State ranks in the Top-4 in all rebounding categories as well.

Samier Kinsler is 11th in the MEC and leads WVSU in scoring at 16.2 PPG. Malik Whitaker (14.7 PPG), Anthony Pittman (12.2 PPG), Noah Jordan (11.6 PPG) and Taevon Horton (10.6 PPG) are the other Yellow Jackets averaging double-figures. Whitaker is 3rd in the league in rebounding, pulling down 7.5 RPG. Dwaine Jones dishes out 4.5 APG, leading WVSU and ranking 4th in the conference.

Bryan Poore is in his 24th season as Head Coach of the Yellow Jackets. Poore is 392-299 since taking over in 1999, holding the title as winningest coach in program history. Prior to WVSU, Poore served as an assistant for three years at Marshall and five seasons at the University of Charleston. He also was an assistant at Alderson Broaddus for one season.

WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (2-20) overall and (2-15) in MEC play. WVWC is coming off an 84-53 defeat at home to Charleston on Wednesday.

Wesleyan's 8.36 steals per game is good enough for 3rd in the league. 15.8 turnovers forced by the Bobcats is still the second-best in the conference. The offense hasn't been able to find much of a groove in the last few games, keeping the scoring average at 59.5 PPG.

Darius Green continues to lead the Bobcats in scoring (16.4 PPG), rebounding (6.4 RPG) and assists (1.7 APG). Green leads the conference in steals, averaging 2.4 SPG. Anthony Craven Jr. is second on the team in scoring (11.2 PPG), rebounds (4.7 RPG) and assists (1.6 APG).
