Preview: Wesleyan To Honor Seniors Against Pioneers

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Men's Basketball is set to honor their seniors on Saturday inside the Rockefeller Center against Glenville State with tipoff set for 4 p.m. The Pioneers took the first meeting between the two earlier in the season 100-53 in Glenville.

GLENVILLE STATE PIONEERS
The Pioneers enter (14-11) overall and (10-9) in MEC play. Glenville State is coming off a heartbreaking loss at home to Davis & Elkins 73-70 on a last-second three.

GSU ranks in the Top-5 in the conference in every statistical category besides Free Throws and Scoring Margin. The Pioneers are most impressively active on the offensive board, ranking 2nd in Offensive Rebounds (13.8 ORPG).

Turbo Smith is the 5th leading scorer in the league at 18.5 PPG. Freddie Word has had a productive season statistically, averaging 15.0 PPG, 7.7 RPG and 5.1 APG. Jacquez Yow (14.0 PPG) and Jamarvious Jones (10.4 PPG) are the other Pioneers averaging double-figures.

Head Coach Justin Caldwell is in his 5th season as the leader of the program. Caldwell previously spent three seasons as an assistant at GSU and two seasons as an assistant California (Pa.). After his short stint at Cal (Pa.), he took over as HC of the Pioneers. Caldwell was an assistant at GSU during the 2015 MEC Championship run and NCAA Tournament berth. Caldwell played collegiate basketball at WVWC for three seasons where he a WVIAC Second Team selection as a junior before transferring to Glenville State for his senior season.

WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (2-22) overall and (2-17) in MEC play. Wesleyan lost on the road on Wednesday to Concord 82-60.

WVWC is now 10th in the conference in Scoring Defense, allowing 84.9 PPG. The Bobcats still sit in the top half of the league in Turnovers Forced (15.4 AVG) and Steals (8.3 SPG).

Wesleyan's leading scorer Darius Green was held to just six points at Concord, dropping his average to 15.9 PPG. Green's 6.5 RPG leads the Bobcats as well. Anthony Craven Jr. is the only other scorer averaging double-figures at 11.7 PPG.
