BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball is set to close the 2023 season out at Davis & Elkins on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Senators beat the Bobcats in Buckhannon earlier in the season 70-53.
DAVIS & ELKINS SENATORS
The Senators enter (17-10) overall and (11-10) in MEC play. Davis & Elkins has won seven of their last eight games, previously defeating Frostburg State on Wednesday night on the road 91-83.
D&E's defense has been one of the major reasons for their recent surge, allowing 80.2 PPG (4
th MEC). The Senators are giving themselves second chance opportunities on the offensive glass, pulling down 11.3 ORPG (6
th MEC).
Another reason for the Senators recent surge is Sam Rolle IV, who ranks 5
th in the MEC in scoring at 18.8 PPG. Rolle also leads the league in assists, dishing out 5.8 APG. Breland Walton is the second leading scorer on the team, putting up 14.1 PPG. Clarens Pierre is 12
th in the MEC and leads the Senators in rebounding at 6.4 RPG.
Daniel Mondragon is in his fourth season as the leader of the Davis & Elkins MBB Program. Mondragon has coached the MEC Freshman of the Year in 2020-21 (Sam Rolle IV) and an All-MEC Second Team honoree (Breland Walton). Mondragon was previously the Head Coach at the elite DME Sports Academy in Daytona Beach, Fla. He recruited high school and post-grad students and was the Director of Player Development. He also served as an assistant for several years at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University prior to DME.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (2-24) overall and (2-19) in MEC play. Wesleyan is coming off of a 104-55 loss at Fairmont State on Wednesday night.
WVWC is tied with D&E for 4
th in the MEC in Turnovers Forced at 15.0 per game. The Bobcats are allowing 85.6 PPG, which puts them 11
th in the conference. Wesleyan has struggled on the offensive side as well, ranking last in the league at just 59.7 PPG.
Darius Green is averaging 15.4 PPG (T-13
th MEC), 6.4 RPG (11
th MEC) and 2.1 SPG (3
rd MEC).
Anthony Craven Jr. scored 17 points at FSU, raising his average to 12.1 PPG.
Kabe Ellis leads the team in assists at 2.4 APG.
