Women’s Lacrosse Loses To Wilmington In Non-Conference Action

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Lacrosse team lost at home on Tuesday afternoon to Wilmington University 18-5. The Wildcats shot 30 times compared to Wesleyan's 15 and forced the Bobcats into 21 turnovers.

Wilmington scored in the opening minute of the game on an Amelie Gamache goal. The Wildcats got up 4-0 before Yuka Mizuide scored for the Bobcats to trim the deficit to three. WU scored three more goals to end the quarter, leading 7-1 after one quarter of play.

The Wildcats blew the game wide open in the 2nd Quarter, holding Wesleyan scoreless and netting seven goals. Wilmington led 14-1 going into the locker room.

Kaitlynn Canby put the Bobcats back on the board early in the 2nd Half, scoring just 24 seconds in. WU answered with two more goals but Raveena Navalgund and Makenzi Lewellyn scored goals to make it 16-4 going into the final quarter.

In the 4th Quarter, the Wildcats put two goals on the board and Canby scored her second goal of the game as the clock was winding down.

Wilmington was led by Maddie Day and Alea Javorowsky with three goals each. Six other Wildcats scored two goals apiece.

Kaitlynn Canby scored two goals to lead Wesleyan. Three Bobcats scored one goal each as well. Gabriella Gomez had eight saves on the day.

Wesleyan hits the road for the first time this season on Saturday when they travel to Tiffin University for a 3 p.m. start.
