Preview: Bobcats Look To Avoid Season Sweep Against Salem In Non-Conference Play

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball opens up game one of a quick two-game home stretch against Salem on Monday night at 6 p.m. The Tigers beat the Bobcats 92-57 in their first meeting of the season on Jan. 2.

SALEM TIGERS
The Tigers enter (11-11) overall. SU has lost their last two games, both on the road and most recently at Lincoln (Pa.) on Wednesday 71-65.

Salem is averaging 79.5 PPG while holding their opponents to 74.0 PPG. The Tigers are pulling down 40.3 RPG and dishing out 11.3 APG. SU is also forcing 14.1 turnovers per game and getting 8.0 steals per game.

Stan Smith leads the Tigers in scoring, averaging almost 19 points at 18.8 PPG and shooting 48% from the field. Rodney Smith is the only other Tiger averaging double-figures at 13.1 PPG. Ashraf Tchadouwa is the leading board getter, pulling down 6.4 RPG.

Brett Rector is in his 2nd season as the Head Coach of the Tigers. In his first season as HC, Salem went 20-7, including 12-1 at home. Prior to Salem, Rector was the head assistant and recruiting coordinator at Charleston. In his time at UC, the Golden Eagles earned the #2 seed in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament in 2020-21. Rector also spent time at Eastern Kentucky (women's assistant), Pikeville (men's Associate Head Coach) and West Virginia Tech (men's assistant).

WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
The Bobcats enter (2-18) overall. Wesleyan is coming off a 73-50 loss on the road at Alderson Broaddus on Saturday.

WVWC is averaging 60.9 PPG this season and opponents are scoring 85.7 PPG. Wesleyan is only averaging 31.1 RPG and 9.2 APG. The Bobcats didn't force as many turnovers against AB, but they are still forcing opponents into 16.2 turnovers per game and getting 8.5 steals per game.

Darius Green was held to just nine points on Saturday, dropping his average to 16.5 PPG. Anthony Craven Jr. had an off night as well, lowering his average to 11.3 PPG.
