Preview: Wesleyan To Host University of Charleston To Pick Conference Play Back Up

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball will return to conference play on Wednesday at home against the University of Charleston at 7:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles beat the Bobcats in Charleston in early January and have won the last 10 matchups.

CHARLESTON GOLDEN EAGLES
The Golden Eagles enter (15-7) overall and (12-4) in MEC play. Charleston is coming off a loss to conference-leader West Liberty on the road 94-77 on Saturday.

Charleston has the top Scoring Defense in the league, allowing 74.0 PPG. The Golden Eagles have been efficient when choosing their shots, ranking 2nd in Team FG% at 50%. UC has struggled on the glass, ranking 9th in Team Rebounds (36.3 RPG) and last in Offensive Rebounds (9.2 ORPG).

Eddie Colbert III (13.7 PPG) and Tyler Eberhart (13.6 PPG) lead the Golden Eagles in scoring this year. Eberhart is 1st in the MEC in FG% at 60.8% and 7th in rebounding (7.1 RPG). Eberhart also leads the team in assists, dishing out 3.0 APG. Keith Williams is another reliable scoring option for UC, currently averaging 12.4 PPG.

Dwaine Osborne is in his 10th season as Head Coach of the Golden Eagles. Osborne has led UC to four MEC Championship game appearances and won three MEC Coach of the Year awards. In 2020-21, UC won their first MEC regular season championship in school history and earned a 2-seed in the NCAA Tournament during the covid-shortened season. Prior to UC, Osborne was the HC at Texas – Permian Basin. Before UTPB, he was the HC at Glenville State for one season where he was also an assistant for three years until he was elevated.

WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (2-19) overall and (2-14) in MEC play. Wesleyan last played on Monday night in non-conference action against Salem, losing 74-38 in their lowest offensive scoring game of the season.

The Bobcats sit at 11th in the MEC in Scoring Defense, allowing 85.1 PPG. WVWC is 7th in Turnover Margin, holding a -0.90 margin and forcing the second-most turnovers in the league at 16.1. Wesleyan's active hands on defense has also led to 8.5 SPG, ranking 3rd in the conference.

Darius Green's average still sits at 16.5 PPG after his 15-point performance against Salem. Green is in the Top-15 in rebounding, grabbing 6.5 RPG. Green holds sole possession of 1st in steals, averaging 2.4 SPG. Anthony Craven Jr. (11.4 PPG) and Tyler Slone (10.5 PPG) aid the offense.
