BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Baseball returns back to the Mountain State from their trip to Florida for a three-game series with Bluefield State. The Bobcats and the Big Blue haven't met since the 2013 season when WVWC won 16-5. The two squads are scheduled to play two nine-inning games on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. followed by a single-game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUE
The Big Blue enter (8-10) and have wins over MEC foes Alderson Broaddus, West Virginia State and Wheeling. BSU was swept by both Frostburg State and Concord as well.
Tahir Meulens leads the Big Blue in average at .385 with 10 XBH and 11 RBI. Jordan Varela-Payne is the muscle bat for BSU, leading the team with 3 HR and he also has six doubles. There is no pitcher with an ERA under 4.20.
Drew Bailey is in his second season as the leader of the Big Blue program. He led a BSU team that set a school record last season with 22 wins. Bailey played collegiate baseball at Concord and was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 2010 MLB Draft. He is a member of the Concord University Hall of Fame.
WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (2-8) overall. Wesleyan is coming off of a 15-5 win over Wayne State College in Florida.
Thatcher Poteat's .407 BA leads the Bobcats and his 7 RBI ties for the team lead with
Jack Tilton. Tilton has hit the lone HR this season for WVWC.
Anthony Hernandez holds a 3.86 ERA through 9.1 IP.
