BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Softball opens up conference play with Fairmont State on Monday (Mar. 19) and Frostburg State on Tuesday (Mar. 20) in a pair of doubleheaders. The games were originally scheduled for this weekend but weather forced them to be moved back.
THE SCHEDULE
Monday vs Fairmont State at 4 & 6 p.m.
Tuesday vs Frostburg State at 1 & 3 p.m.
THE BOBCATS
Wesleyan enters (13-6) overall after winning 11 games while in Florida, including an eight-game winning streak.
Morgan Norris and
Taylor Swartz have led the Wesleyan offense all season. Swartz leads the team in AVG (.340), hits (18) and doubles (6), adding a triple and 10 RBI as well. Norris is batting .320 with 16 hits, five doubles, three triples, 1 HR, 13 RBI and a 1.019 OPS.
Kendall Stoffel (1.80) and
Hannah Hudson (1.91) both feature ERAs under 2 for the Bobcats with Stoffel posting a 6-1 record.
FAIRMONT STATE FIGHTING FALCONS
The Falcons enter (11-11) overall and (1-1) in MEC play. FSU split with Davis & Elkins on Thursday to open their conference schedule. Fairmont defeated Wesleyan in the 2022 MEC Championship but the Bobcats returned the favor in the Atlantic Regional Tournament.
Emily Riggs leads the Falcons all around, batting .381 with 24 hits, nine doubles, one triple, 7 HR, 21 RBI and a 1.362 OPS. Shelby Reed is 3-2 in five starts for FSU, holding a 3.04 ERA in 23.2 IP.
Brooke Sullivan is in her first season as Head Coach of the Falcons. Sullivan previously spent three seasons as an assistant at Seton Hill. While at SHU in 2022, the Griffins went 42-12 and appeared in the National Championship. She also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Frostburg State.
FROSTBURG STATE BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (11-4) overall and will face Davis & Elkins on Monday before squaring off with Wesleyan on Tuesday.
Jamie Roberts is hitting .488 with 21 hits, six doubles, 1 HR, 18 RBI and a 1.220 OPS. Her 18 RBI leads the Bobcats. Sierra Sanderson leads the team in BA at an impressive .500 AVG (21-42) with three doubles, one triple and 6 RBI. Jamie Roberts also leads the team in pitching with a 4-1 record and 3.94 ERA.
Bill Vasko is in his fifth season as the leader of the Bobcat softball program. In the last two seasons, Vasko has led Frostburg to 54 total wins. Vasko was an assistant at Division I UMass Lowell for four seasons prior to becoming the HC at Frostburg State.
