CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan baseball team lost their fifth straight game on the road today against West Virginia Tech 10-3 at GoMart Ballpark in Charleston. The Bobcats had nine hits on the day but a big fifth inning by the Golden Bears proved to be pivotal.

How It Happened
WVU Tech scored three runs and had five hits in the bottom of the 1^st inning after setting the Bobcat lineup down in order. The Golden Bears brought seven batters to the plate, starting the inning with two singles and scoring the first run of the game with an RBI double. Another RBI double and RBI single made it 3-0 after one inning.

In the top of the 2^nd, Wesleyan scored their first run of the game after Cole Shearer and Preston Todd singled back-to-back, putting Shearer in place for Ian Donohoe who grounded out but was able to pick up the RBI. The Bobcats had a chance to put more runs across the plate in the top of 3^rd when Sam Ingram and Eddie Rueda hit consecutive singles, placing runners at the corners with no outs. Three straight outs ended the inning for WVWC.

The Golden Bears added a run to the board in the bottom of the 4^th on an infield single. In the bottom of the 5^th, WVU Tech crossed six runs to put the game out of reach. The six runs were scored on four hits, including a 3 RBI double with two outs. The Bobcats cut into the Golden Bear lead in the top of the 8^th, getting a solo HR from Luke Burner and Josh Jenkins doubling Matthew Neach home. Two runners were on in the top of the 9^th but the game would be ended on a strikeout.

Broedy Boyce and Francesco Calderon both had 3 RBI for the WVU Tech. Five different Golden Bear batters had at least two hits. Four different pitchers took the mound, surrendering nine hits, three runs (two earned), three walks and seven strikeouts.

Luke Burner, Josh Jenkins and Ian Donohoe had 1 RBI apiece for Wesleyan. Preston Todd and Sam Ingram added two hits as well. Drew Evans was one of eight Bobcats who pitched, taking the loss after four innings of work and giving up four runs (all earned) on eight hits and one walk.
